Endearist vs Streak
A fair, specific comparison — written so you'd be comfortable if a Streak engineer read it.
Fairness pledge
Streak is the original Gmail-plugin CRM — it lives inside Gmail's right rail, lets you turn email threads into pipeline stages, and includes mail merge, email tracking, and shareable pipelines. If your work happens almost entirely inside Gmail and you need a lightweight sales CRM that doesn't make you leave the inbox, Streak is the cleanest option and we say so. It is, however, explicitly a sales CRM — pipelines, deals, mail merge, view-tracking — not a personal relationship tool. Endearist sits on the other side of the line: no pipelines, no view-tracking, no mail merge, just the relationships you actually care about.
Where your data lives
Streak: cloud-hosted on Google Cloud Platform (US) — your pipelines, contacts, and email metadata sit in Streak's database. Endearist: your device first — sync optional via your own cloud (Google Drive, iCloud, WebDAV) or Endearist Cloud (EU-hosted).
How AI is accessed
Streak offers AI features in higher tiers — AI-assisted email drafting and pipeline summaries — processed on Streak's infrastructure via third-party LLM APIs. Email content leaves Gmail in the same request. Endearist's Magic Buttons run client-side with no AI by default. If you bring your own AI key (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini), it stays on your device. If you'd rather not manage a key, Endearist Pro Cloud Light bundles ~250 EU-routed actions/month for €4.99/month, and Pro Cloud upgrades to ~600 actions/month plus voice-note transcription for €9.99/month.
3-year total cost
Streak Free: $0 (personal use, ~50 boxes). Streak Pro: $49/user/month — ~€1,760 over 3 years. Endearist Pro Lifetime: €69 once. Endearist Pro Cloud: €9.99/month (~€360 over 3 years).
What we don't do
We don't have pipelines, deal stages, mail merge, email view-tracking, or a Gmail plugin — by design. Streak is a sales CRM and does those things well. Endearist isn't trying to be a sales CRM. We're the journal-quiet layer for the 100-150 people in your life outside of revenue.
Feature matrix
Side-by-side.
| Feature | Endearist | Streak |
|---|---|---|
| Local-first data storage | Yes — the primary copy sits on your own device, not in a US data centre. | No — hosted on Google Cloud (US). |
| End-to-end encrypted sync | Yes — AES-256-GCM end to end; the key never leaves you. | Transport TLS only; server holds plaintext. |
| Mobile native apps (iOS / Android) | Full native Flutter apps on both iOS and Android — no companion-app compromise. | iOS, Android companion apps (read-only access to pipelines). |
| Desktop native apps | Standalone native apps on macOS, Windows, and Linux — no browser needed. | No — Gmail browser plugin only (Chrome / Safari extension). |
| AI features | Strictly opt-in: run your own key on-device, or pick Pro Cloud Light (~250 EU-routed actions/mo) / Pro Cloud (~600 actions/mo + voice). | AI email drafting + pipeline summaries on higher tiers; runs on Streak servers. |
| Self-host option | Not today — your local store lives in the desktop app. | No. |
| Pricing | 25 contacts free; paid tiers are Pro Lifetime at €69 once, Pro Cloud Light at €4.99/mo, and Pro Cloud at €9.99/mo. | Free (personal). Pro $49/user/month. Enterprise $129/user/month. |
| Open source code | Source-release pledge: the code goes public if we shut down or are acquired. | No — proprietary. |
| Plain-Markdown export | Yes — plain Markdown, legible in any text editor, no app required. | CSV export of pipelines / boxes; no Markdown. |
| Voice-note transcription | Yes: 60 min/mo on Pro Cloud, or with your own key. | No. |
| Family / multi-vault share | Household-shaped: Pro Cloud family share with 2 seats; multi-vault planned on the roadmap. | No — team-pipeline sharing is org-only, not household. |
| Journal / reflection | Yes — journal built in, plus a weekly ritual and appreciation prompts. | No — boxes hold email threads + custom fields, no journal surface. |
| Relationship depth (how-we-met, pets) | Life-shaped fields instead of deal fields: how-we-met, pets, custom pronouns, life events, debts, attachments. | Sales-shaped: stage, deal value, owner, custom fields. No pets / how-we-met / life-events. |
| Calendar / messenger integrations | No inbox hooks — just read-only calendar (Google/Apple/Outlook) and manual share-sheet capture for messenger context. | Deep Gmail + Google Calendar integration; no messenger. |
When to pick Streak
When Streak is the better fit.
If you sell things and your sales workflow is email-centric, Streak is the most integrated Gmail CRM available — mail merge, pipeline-in-inbox, email tracking. Pick Streak when "relationship" means "deal", you live in Gmail all day, and you can absorb $49/user/month as a sales-tools expense. We're not trying to be a sales CRM (we have no pipelines, no deals, no email tracking — by design) — we're the system for the 100-150 people in your life outside of revenue.
Switching
Coming from Streak?
Most users do not switch from Streak to Endearist because the use cases don't overlap. If you've been using Streak as a personal CRM in a pinch (some founders do this), export your boxes from Streak via Settings → Export → CSV. Import the CSV into Endearist via Settings → Import → CSV. Pipeline stages and deal values won't map — but contact names, emails, and free-text notes will. Most teams keep Streak running for the sales pipeline and add Endearist as the separate personal-relationship layer alongside it.
